Lee W. Hammerling, MD, is Chief Physician Executive and Chief Medical Officer for ProMedica.  In this role, he provides executive oversight for more than 850 employed physicians and advanced practice providers; ProMedica service lines including heart and vascular, orthopaedics, oncology, womens, diabetes and surgery; population health and ProMedica’s clinically integrated network; an innovations division focused on commercialization of newly patented/licensed ProMedica inventions; ProMedica academic programs and affiliations; and post-acute care services including long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, hospice, home care, ambulatory pharmacy and laboratory services.

Dr. Hammerling became a member of The Toledo Hospital’s Medical Staff in 1983 practicing anesthesiology and critical care medicine. From 1987 to 1991, he served as Chairman of The Toledo Hospital’s Department of Anesthesiology. He also served as President of The Toledo Hospital’s Medical Staff from 1992 to 1995 and was named President, ProMedica Physicians and Continuum Services and Chief Medical Officer in 1999.  Dr. Hammerling earned his bachelor of science degree from University of Notre Dame and a medical degree from the University of Chicago Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Florida.
